pharynx

Section of the alimentary canal connecting the mouth and nasal apparatus with the oesophagus.

alimentary canal
The passage (including the oesophagus, stomach, and intestines when present) along which food passes through the body from mouth to anus.
branchial arch
One of the bony or cartilaginous arches situated on either side of the pharynx that form the support for the gills.
epibranchial organ
Present in some microphagous fishes and comprises a paired dorsal diverticulum located towards the posterior of the pharynx. In the majority of species it's divided into two sections by additional gill rakers which trap small food particles.
gill arch
Bony or cartilaginous arch in the pharynx to which the gill filaments and rakers are attached.
oesophagus
Muscular tube through which food passes from mouth to stomach in vertebrates; the gullet. Also spelled 'esophagus'.
pharyngeal
Of, relating to, or located on the pharynx.
visceral arch
One of the bony or cartilaginous arches situated on either side of the pharynx that form the branchial arches and lower jaw.
