New Laubuca described
Laubuca brahmaputraensis is a new species known only from the Brahmaputra River in Bangladesh. No specific type locality is provided in the paper other than ‘Brahmaputra River’, so the extent of its distribution is unclear, and live colouration is currently unknown.
The new species can be differentiated from congeners by the following combination of characters: lateral linecomplete with 31-32 + 1-2 pored scales; transverse scales rows on body 6½- 7½/ 1 /2½ – 3½ scales; body slender with depth 25.1-29.3 % SL; caudal peduncle depth 8.9-9.8 % SL; anal-fin with 3 unbranched rays and 19½-20½ branched rays; pelvic fin short and not reaching beyond the anus, with length 43.2-83.3 % HL; presence of a black blotch above the pectoral-fin base; lower jaw smooth and lacking tubercles.
